Coeur d'Alene's Holidays Start Before the Switch Flips. Here's the Locals' November Calendar.

Coeur d'Alene's 2026 holiday season starts three weeks before the Lighting Ceremony on Friday, Nov. 27. The CDA On Ice rink opens Nov. 6. The Resort's lake cruises to Santa's North Pole start Nov. 13, at a discount, and Santa's elves begin nightly lobby storytime the same evening. On Nov. 27 the parade, fireworks, Festival of Trees open house and full-price cruise season all land within a few blocks of each other. If you live here, the first three weeks of November are the cheaper, roomier part of the season.

The Calendar, in the Order It Happens

Here is how the next seven weeks line up, using dates the organizers have published for 2026:

  1. Saturday, Oct. 17: Harvest Market and Apple Palooza, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., on 5th Street between Front Avenue and Coeur d'Alene Avenue. Tickets are $20 presale and $25 at the door.
  2. Friday, Nov. 6: CDA On Ice opens for a season that runs through Jan. 18, 2027. The rink is at 504 E. Front Ave.
  3. Friday, Nov. 13: Santa's Sneak Peek Week cruises begin. Santa's elves start Fireside Storytime in the Resort lobby, nightly at 4:30 p.m., running through Jan. 3.
  4. Wednesday, Nov. 25: Last night of discounted cruises.
  5. Thursday, Nov. 26: Thanksgiving. Full-price cruise season begins.
  6. Friday, Nov. 27: Lighting Ceremony Parade, fireworks, the switch-on, the Festival of Trees open house and opening night of the Resort's "My Favorite Things" show.
  7. Saturday, Nov. 28: The free downtown Elf on the Shelf scavenger hunt starts and runs daily through Dec. 20.

The ice rink and the lobby storytime both come before the ceremony. You can skate on Front Avenue for three weeks before the switch is flipped a block away.

Sneak Peek Week Is the Same Cruise for Less

The Coeur d'Alene Resort describes the Nov. 13–25 window plainly:

"Experience the wonder before the crowds. It's the same Journey to the North Pole - same lights, same Santa, same MAGIC - just a sneak peek at Santa's NEW North Pole before others see it!"

The schedule doesn't change. During Sneak Peek Week and the regular season, the 40-minute cruises leave at 4:30, 5:30, 6:30 and 7:30 p.m. Boarding is inside the Resort Plaza Shops at 115 S. 2nd St., 30 minutes before each departure. The price is what changes, according to the Lake Coeur d'Alene Cruises ticket page:

Ticket Sneak Peek, Nov. 13–25 Regular, Nov. 26–Jan. 3
Adult $23.50 $30.50
Senior, 55+ $22.75 $29.50
Youth, 6–12 $12.00 $15.00
Children, 5 and under Free Free

The cruise company says the Sneak Peek prices already include taxes, fees and the 25% discount, and that the discount can't be combined with other offers. For two adults and two kids ages 6 to 12, the listed prices come to $71 during Sneak Peek Week and $91 starting on Thanksgiving.

The calendar matters too. Nov. 25 is the Wednesday before Thanksgiving, the last discounted night, and the night many out-of-town guests have just arrived. If you're hosting family that week, Wednesday evening is the last chance to take everyone on the cruise at the lower price.

Two cautions. The Resort calls this year's display a "NEW North Pole" but hasn't said publicly what changed, so wait and see in person. The cruise is also the only pre-ceremony viewing either the Resort or the cruise company has confirmed for 2026. Their materials promise the lights and Santa's North Pole from the water during Sneak Peek Week. They don't say whether the full display can be seen from the shore before Nov. 27, when the Resort says it will "flip the switch."

Then Everything Lands on One Friday

Nov. 27 is when the season stops spreading out. The Coeur d'Alene Downtown Association's 34th annual Lighting Ceremony Parade, presented by STCU, follows the theme "Santa's Workshop." It starts at 5 p.m. at 8th and Sherman and heads west on Sherman Avenue. Carols, a fireworks show from the Hagadone Corporation and the switch-on of more than 1.5 million lights follow on the Resort lawn.

The street closures start well before the first float:

  • 1 p.m.: Parked vehicles must be off Sherman Avenue.
  • 3 p.m.: Sherman closes to all traffic from Northwest Boulevard to 8th Street.
  • 4 p.m.: Barricades go up along the route, and entries between 1st and 8th Streets close.
  • After the show: No traffic can leave Sherman until pedestrians clear. The Downtown Association directs drivers to 4th and 7th Streets.

If you work downtown or park on Sherman on a normal Friday, plan around the 1 p.m. deadline. Moving the car is a midday job that day.

The Festival of Trees also opens that night. The Kootenai Health Foundation's 38th Festival of Trees runs Nov. 27–28 at The Coeur d'Alene Resort, with proceeds supporting regional hospital care. The public open house, Friday d'Lights, runs 5 to 8 p.m., overlapping the 5 p.m. parade and the fireworks that follow it. It includes tree viewing and photos with Santa and the Grinch. General admission is $5 plus a $1 service fee, kids 12 and under get in free, and a Family Fast Pass covering up to six people ages 13 and up costs $40 plus a $1 fee. Saturday's festival events are a morning session for Kootenai Health employees and the evening Gala, at $250 per person. For most of the public, Friday's three hours are the only chance to see the trees, and they overlap with the parade. If you want to do both, choose an order before you head downtown.

Regular-price cruises run that evening too, and the Resort's "My Favorite Things" Christmas show opens Nov. 27 for a run through Dec. 20. Shows are at 7 p.m. Thursdays and Fridays and 5 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays.

After the Fireworks, the Season Spreads Out Again

The day after the ceremony, the downtown calendar goes back to events you can do any day. The Downtown Association's Elf on the Shelf scavenger hunt runs daily from Nov. 28 through Dec. 20 during business hours. The passport and every part of the event are free. The rink stays open into January. Breakfast with Santa is Sunday, Dec. 13, from 9 a.m. to noon at the Hagadone Event Center. Tickets are $75 for ages 13 and up and $45 for kids 12 and under, plus tax and fees.

The pattern holds through the season. The crowded part is one Friday night. On either side of it there are about seven weeks of programming you can spread across ordinary evenings.

Where to Stop Between Events

Downtown has a few new places to stop between events since last holiday season.

River & Rye opened Aug. 5 at 422 E. Sherman Ave., in the former Crickets space. Co-owner Chad Waldher told the Coeur d'Alene Press it's a Hemingway-inspired craft cocktail bar serving Italian, French and Spanish food, and Jessi Waldher described a 21-plus, date-night atmosphere. It's on Sherman, inside the closure zone, so on Nov. 27 you'd walk in, not drive.

The Patriot Bar held its grand opening Oct. 3 at 406 N. Fourth St., according to the Coeur d'Alene Press. VFW Post 889 runs it, bar revenue goes toward helping veterans, and the upstairs event center seats 200. Fourth Street is one of the two exits the Downtown Association names for leaving after the fireworks.

Crescent Moon Bakery at 315 E. Walnut Ave. appeared as newly open in the Press's September business roundup. Walnut is north of the Sherman closures, which makes it easy to reach on a Sneak Peek Week evening.

The Harvest Market on Oct. 17 is the last big downtown street event before the rink opens. The Downtown Association hasn't released its list of participating Apple Palooza businesses yet.

If you're thinking about selling next year, a downtown that stays busy from early November through January is part of what buyers see when they look at a Coeur d'Alene home. ExSell Realty Group follows this calendar as closely as the market numbers, and Donnie and Amy can tell you what your home is worth going into the new year. Get a Free Home Valuation, then get downtown for the cruises before Nov. 25.
